According to "The Hamlin Family, A Genealogy of Capt. Giles Hamlin of Middletown, Connecticut" by Hon. H. Franklin Andrews (self-pub. 1900) (available on Ancestry.com), Abigail Permelia Hubbard was the daughter of Elizur Hubbard and Abigail Sage. She was born April 7, 1809, in Windsor, Vermont, and married Dr. Albert L. Castleman on June 6, 1832, in Eugene, Indiana. They had five children, but only two daughters, Margaret H. and Mary S., survived into adulthood.

On Sept. 28, 1893, the San Jose Evening News reported "Today Mrs. Abby P. Castleman, relict of Dr. A. L. Castleman, died at the residence of George H. Start on Alum Rock avenue. She was a native of Vermont, aged 83 years and six months."
