Winona B. Alter, 86, of Indianapolis passed away on October 2, 2017 in Rushville. She was born on November 26, 1930 in Rushville to the late Roy and Clara (Riggs) Alter. Winona graduated High School from Indiana School of Deaf and then went on and received her Bachelor's Degree in Science at Galudet University and finished her education by receiving a Master's Degree at Butler University in 1971 also in Science. She was a teacher at the Indiana School of Deaf for over 30 years. She was active in the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. Winona traveled extensively through her life.
Winona is survived by her loving sister, Ruth Lee of Rushville and many nieces and nephews.
Winona is preceded in death by her three sisters, Aileen Bowers, Mable Byrd, and Viola Gordon; and also a brother Charles Alter.
Services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11 AM in Moster Mortuary with Pastor Amy Covington presiding. Friends are welcome to visit at the mortuary on Friday morning at 10 AM till service. Burial will be in Rushville East Hill Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Flatrock River Lodge, 904 East 11th street, Rushville, IN.
