Born to Robert and Chessa (Ervin) Gum.

He married the former Jeanette Marie Barner in 1958 in Lewiston, Idaho.

Loving Father to Robert "Dale", George "Dennis", William "Dirk" and Donald Lester Gum and 3 daughters: Deanna Gilmore, Dolena Grivell, and Laura Barnhart. Bob has 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Robert served in the United States Air Force as a Nuclear Weapons Technician from March of 1956 to March of 1960 at the Deep Creek Strategic Base, Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, Washington.

He was a 1962 graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Electronics in Ohio and was an adult graduate of Olympia High School in 1964.

Robert was employed by Rayon, Inc. in Painesville, Ohio from 1953 to 1962, and by Pay N Save Drugs from 1966 to 1972. He was also employed for several years by Al Bailey Drugs. Robert owned the North Street Grocery from 1976 to 1984.

Before his retirement, he worked part-time at WalMart and Target.

Prior to living in Tenino, WA, Robert lived in the Olympia, Washington area for 43 years. Prior to this, he lived in Painesville, Ohio from 1950 to 1956.

His interests included old farm tractors, G-scale model trains, CB radios, woodworking, and photography, and he was an avid Mariners fan.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Marilyn Lambert and Rebecca MacKnight.
