George Elmer Newman, 73, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at VA Puget Sound Health Care in Seattle, Washington.

He was born November 18, 1946 to Elmer and Essie Newman in Zinc, Arkansas, the oldest of four children.

He graduated from Highland High School in ‘65, where he met his future wife, Kay (Willey) Newman. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Military during the Vietnam War, as a radio-telephone operator. Shortly after being honorably discharged from service, he married his high school sweetheart, Kay, and spent 53 years of marriage together, raising two sons.

During his free time, he valued spending time with his family. He made sure he made it to Sawyer’s football games each Saturday and will be keeping an eye on her wrestling matches from up above. You could always see the excitement on his face when Jasmine and Conner would perform at their piano recitals. Such joy his grandkids gave him; they will miss you greatly “Papa”! He loved to fish, hunt, golf, tell jokes/stories, and collect stuff. His generosity will always be remembered as a huge highlight throughout his life. Whether it was advice (you needed or didn’t need), time, monetary, friendship or just a smile to let you know all is okay, he would find a way to make it happen.

George is survived by his wife Kay Newman, sons/daughters in-law: Jay & Jen and Justin & Rachell; grandchildren: Jasmine, Sawyer and Conner; brother Lex Newman; and sister Brenda Rose.

Visitation will be at Keith & Keith Funeral Home on Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 4:30-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 24 at Yakima Bible Baptist Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at West Hills Memorial Park. A celebration of George’s life will follow at the church.
