Fred Scott, Jr. the youngest son of 9 children was born on April 26, 1936 in Lavonia, Georgia to Fannie and Fred Scott, Sr. He departed this life to be with our Lord and Savior on January 14, 2020 peacefully at home in Columbus, Ohio.

As a child his family relocated from Lavonia, Georgia, a rural sharecropping town near the Georgia and South Carolina Border to Columbus, Ohio, where he would later attend East High School.

On February 15, 1958 he married the love of his life, his wife of 62 years Rosa (Rosie). They would go onto build a wonderful life together welcoming three children, Gerald, Michelle, and Rhonda.

Fred spent 20 years working with Westinghouse, and several years with the Board of Education, before retiring from General Motors after 23 years of service. He was also an entrepreneur who worked tirelessly to provide for his family and leaves behind an honorable legacy.

As a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for more than 60 years, he served in the Male Chorus, Smith Simmons scholarship and Johnnie Mae Wright food pantry ministries.

Fred was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. No sacrifice was too great for the wellbeing of his family. He was a generally quiet man but had a distinct booming laugh that could fill a house and a smile that would illuminate a room. He was a kind, polite and caring man, who gave his all and asked nothing in return. Fred was the epitome of what it means to be a great man.

An avid golfer in his retirement, he could be found on the course each morning with his good friend Cleveland. If the sun was shining, they were golfing. He took pride in having one of the best lawns in the neighborhood, and if he wasn’t out playing the green, he could be found working to keep his lawn green.

Preceded in death by parents, Fred Scott, Sr., and Fannie Scott; brothers, Bennie, W.G., Edward, and George Scott; sisters, Mary Ector, Laura Suber, Madge McNeil, Jo Evelyn Causey; and his only, son Gerald Scott, Sr.

Fred leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Rosa Scott; daughters, Michelle Scott-Reed, Rhonda Scott; grandchildren, Gerald Scott, Jr., Shaniqua Scott, Jeremy Scott (Sarah), and Brittany Reed; six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
