Elvin R. Jones, 91, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away Tuesday October 1, 2019 at Hearthstone Health Campus. He was born June 12, 1928 in Orleans, Indiana, the son of Charles Emory and Elva Grace (Tarr) Jones.

Elvin grew up in Leipsic, IN, and he was a 1947 graduate of Orleans High School. He married Evelyn Marie Wilson on September 4, 1948. He was employed first at Sarkes Tarzian as a Lab Technician, and then he worked at Crane Navel Base for over 25 years as an Engineering Technician, retiring in 1994.

Elvin was a member of Clear Creek Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing cards, watching Indiana University athletics, and working on cars. He loved bicycling and rode over 83,000 miles. He rode in the Hilly Hundred many times and the Ride Across Indiana at least twice. He also loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren, watching their games or just spending time with them. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Elvin is survived by his son Charles E (Rebecca) Jones of Bloomington and his daughters Anna M. Dyson of Greenville, Texas and Joyce (Byron) Brumit of Jeffersonville, IN. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jayme Henchon, Jeffrey Jones, Rebekah Hess, Amanda Williams, Jessalyn Jones, Leah Brumit, and Avery Brumit, and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Iona Toliver of Salem, IN and his brother, John Doyle "JD" Jones of Greenfield, IN. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Elvin was preceded in death by his parents as well as his wife, Marie, one brother, Raymond, and a great granddaughter, Harper Ann Henchon.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old St. Rd 37, Bloomington. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 4, 2019 at Clear Creek Christian Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor David Lee will officiate. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

Allen Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements.
