Heart Attack Takes Husband; Wife follows
A 61 year old Palm Springs man and his wife died within minutes of each other, the County Coroner's office revealed today, when both were stricken with fatal heart attacks last Friday/
The unusual double tragedy occurred when Arnold Walter McDonald, a heavy equipment operator, collapsed in his home at 67209 Mission Drive, in Dream Homes, after doing some yard work. His wife Elinor, who is 57 years old, heard the sound of her husband falling and came to investigate. Mrs. McDonald then apparently suffered a heart seizure and died before reaching Desert Hospital.
Deputy Coroner George Drowley, who investigated both deaths, said that McDonald probably died almost instantly, both persons, he said, had a history of heart disease.
They are survived by four children: Stanley McDonald of Indio; Eugene McDonald with the U.S. Air Force in Germany; and two daughters, Mrs. Marcia Howard who lives in the State of Washington and Mrs. Lynn Pound of Colorado.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from Desert Chapel with burial in Desert Memorial Park, under the direction of Palm Springs Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, contributions have been requested for the Desert Chapel Building Fund.
