Joyce Olive Richards
March 5, 1956 - January 14, 2020

Joyce Olive Richards, age 63, of Brandywine, MD passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

She was born March 5, 1956 in Prince George’s Hospital, Chevely, Maryland to the late, John Franklin Richardson and Mary Ellen “Jenny” (Thomas) Richardson.

Joyce met and fell in love with her best friend, Frank S. Richards, Jr. and married him during her favorite time of year, Christmas.

They spent over 36 years together, had two wonderful and loving daughters, endured a few bumps in the road, but never let their love fade.

Joyce’s heart broke with his passing in 2017, leaving her with only memories of their everlasting bond.

Joyce’s biggest joy came from being a wife, mother and then a grandmother. Spending time with the “Girly Girls” brought her great joy. She loved shopping, going to Starbucks, and her favorite the “spill the tea” chats. Being a grandma was her greatest accomplishment and seeing her legacy in their bright eyes gave her hope and contentment. She was a fun loving, energetic and sassy grandma.

If you ever left Joyce’s table hungry it was not for the lack of food. An amazing cook, Joyce taught her daughter’s how to prepare the most delicious meals, especially her fried chicken. She was an avid shopper and could spend hours in the store just “browsing” or with her television tuned to QVC. It was never uncommon for her to be receiving Amazon packages.

The sounds of the ocean waves breaking across the sand brought Joyce peace and tranquility. When she watched the sun set over the ocean, she knew all was well with her world. Sand, sun and family were her favorite things. The next time you find yourself looking out across the waves, think of Joyce and her love for you and know she is smiling down. She has one arm wrapped around her loving husband and the other blowing a kiss on the wind brushing your cheek.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Amanda M. Gullickson (Richards) of Brandywine, MD and Holly N. Richards of Brandywine, MD.

As well as her four (4) grandchildren, Jennifer, Julie, Jessie and Jamie; and one brother, James G. Richardson.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Frank S. Richards, Jr.; brother, John Richardson, and sisters, Minnie V. Windsor, Mabel L. Miller and Mary Ellen “Mary Jane” Richardson.

The family of Joyce will receive friends on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. for a Visitation, with Prayers being heard at 6:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.
