Tony Leroy Montgomery, known to some as "GYP" was born August 19, 1962 in Colleton County. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the Medical University in Charleston, South Carolina.

He attended the public schools of Colleton County and graduated with the 1979 class of Walterboro High School, Walterboro, South Carolina. Tony was employed with Powell Painting for thirty-five years until his health began to fail. At an early age, he became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Walterboro, South Carolina.

He was known for his love to play pool around Walterboro. If there was a pool tournament going on, Tony was there and was always winning trophies. This was his favorite hobby that he enjoyed doing all the time. He also loved fishing with his family.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Montgomery Bartley and nephew, O'Brian Bartley.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories one daughter, Indiar Gardner (Daron) of Atlanta, GA; one son, O'Brian Montgomery of Walterboro, SC; one grandson, Savion Gardner of Atlanta,GA; his parents, Tommie and Gladys Simmons of Walterboro, SC; two brothers, Timmy Simmons (Anitra) of North Carolina and Melvin Montgomery of Walterboro, SC; two step-children, Martina Moore and Asa Moore of Ellenwood, GA; seven aunts, Dorothy Montgomery of Walterboro, SC, Deloris Montgomery of Augusta, GA, Sarah Nettles of Moss Point, MS, Barbara Watts of New Haven, CT, Glencile Greenlea of Montgomery, AL, Mamie Lynah of Cottageville, SC, and Clara Williams of Walterboro, SC; seven uncles, Edward Montgomery of Moss Point, MS, Willie Montgomery of Garden Grove, CA, Larry Montgomery, Gregory (Doris) Montgomery, Hozell (Sylvia) Montgomery, all of Beatrice, AL, Elijah (Mary) Hale of Shreveport, LA, Howard (Johnnie Mae) Hale of Frisco City, AL; a special friend, Stephanie Moody of Walterboro, SC and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
