Ella Russell Cox Edwards Pope, 80, beloved wife of Joseph Wesley Pope and the widow of Eugene P. Edwards, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 16, 2020, at her residence.

Mrs. Pope was born the daughter of Thomas Russell Cox and Elnora McAllister Cox on July 31, 1939, in Florence County.

She was a retired principal for Deep Creek Elementary Schools and Pleasant Hill Elementary Schools. She was a Staff Development Coordinator for the Georgetown County School District. She was a faithful member of Center Baptist Church for over 60 years where she served in the WMU. She was a member of the Folly Grove Community Center and helped start the Folly Grove Christmas Parade. She enjoyed gardening and going to the beach. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and a loyal friend.

She leaves behind her husband; two children, Lynn Edwards Meekins (Randy) and Mary Edwards Mintz (Walter “Buddy”); five grandchildren, Patrick Edwards (Gina), Tyler Edwards (Amanda), Blake Meekins (Lauren); David Meekins (Linda) and Joshua Mintz; and a daughter-in-law, Sheila Tyler Edwards.

A Home Going Celebration will be 10AM, Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Center Baptist Church, 2602 Schoolhouse Dr., Hemingway. Interment will follow in the Pine Bluff Cemetery directed by the Hemingway Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

The family will receive family and friends 6-8PM, Friday evening, January 17, 2020 in the church sanctuary.

Note: She married Eugene Pope Edwards about 1958 in Richland County, SC. Eugene was a son of Jack Edwards and Mary Pope Edwards. He was born in Charleston and died at the home of his mother in Hemingway.
