He was a nephew of Marine Sgt. John Basilone of Raritan, who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for heroism in Guadalcanal and later lost his life at Iwo Jima.
His grandfather, Salvatore Basilone died several weeks ago in Raritan.
Mr. Basilone, who was a carpenter,leaves his widow, Mrs. Joan Montagna Basilone; four children, Richard, Walter, Susan and Mary; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Basilone of Raritan; a brother, Wayne, and a sister, Mrs. Janice Kretch, also of Raritan.
Graduated Somerville High School, Class of 1953
Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Bridgewater
