Actress. She began her career vaudeville comic in the 1930s and established herself a top star of radio situation comedy in the 1940s. Her first film was in the short western feature "Way Up Thar" (1935), with Roy Rogers. Her other film credits included "Hold That Ghost" (1941), "Beautiful but Broke" (1944), "Show Business" (1944) and "If You Knew Susie" (1948). For television, she is best remembered for the lead role of ‘Joan' on the series "I Married Joan" 1952 to 1953, for which she was nominated an Emmy Award for Best Comedienne. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and died of a heart attack at age 53. Note: the date of birth given on her gravestone is incorrect.
