Frank was a native of Haywood County and a Proud Veteran of The US Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, Terrell. Frank was a good provider to his family whom he loved dearly. While serving in the Army, he was a cook. His love for cooking lasted through the years and enjoyed having cook outs for his family and friends. Frank had a constant companion in his precious dog Penny.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley & Mary Nelson; his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Ruth Arrington Nelson who passed away in 2008; four brothers, Tom, Junior, Richard, and James Nelson; and three sisters, Margie Brookshire, Alma Davis, and Audrey Lane Coward.
Frank is survived by two daughters, Deloras Rathbone and Theresa Nelson (Mark Sutton) both of Waynesville; one son, Terrell Nelson; eight grandchildren, Lee Rathbone, Brian Green, Melissa Nelson, Sharon Davis, Jessica Barrera, Natalie Tate, Becky Sleeman, and Travis Green; eight great grandchildren, Savannah Rathbone, Addisyn Nelson, Eastyn and Elijah Davis, KayeLee Tate, Max & Ryder Sleeman, and Havyn Green; one sister, Eleanor Nicholson; a special friend Debbie Stillinger; several nieces, nephews, dear friends and his loving dog Penny.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Smoky Mountain Chapel, with Chaplain Michael Revord officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00-1:00. Burial with Military Honors will follow services at Greenhill Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Lee Rathbone, Brian Green, David Stillinger, Denny Jordan, Dustin Tate, & Mark Sutton.
