Richard W. "Dick" Sweetnam, 89, of Manchester, beloved husband of 64 years to Nancy (Cunningham) Sweetnam, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018. Dick was born June 16, 1929, in Chelsea, MA, to the late James and Margaret (Wynne) Sweetnam. Dick grew up in Massachusetts and was a graduate of Revere High School. After high school, he earned his Bachelor's in Psychology from Tufts University and went on to receive his Master's Degree from Perdue University. After his schooling, he entered the service where he proudly served his country in the Army. When returning from the service he and his wife briefly resided in West Hartford before making Manchester their home for over 60 years. He worked as a Human Factors Engineer for Pratt & Whitney for many years. Dick was a family man. A kind, gentle individual that would do almost anything for anyone who was in need. He loved the outdoors and would be found out hiking and walking the Hockanum River Trails in his free time. He was also a volunteer for the CT Forest & Park Assoc., as well as a volunteer at the Manchester Senior Center as a Tax Preparer. In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his daughter, his grandson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his son George and his sister Doris. Family and friends are welcome to attend a service for Dick on Monday, December 17, 2018, at 6 p.m. at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main St, Manchester. There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at 12 p.m. in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in his name may be made to the CT Forest & Park Assoc., 16 Meriden Rd, Rockfall, CT 06481 or to the DeQuattro Community Cancer Center, 73 Haynes St. Suite A, Manchester.
