Son of Albert Rudolph Evert and Elizabeth Anna Hurtgen. Pewaukee Flier Killed - The Waukesha Freeman (WI) - Wednesday - September 13, 1944: "Pewaukee Flier 94th Man From County Killed - Second Lieutenant Charles Evert, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Evert, Pewaukee, had become the 94th Waukesha county servieman killed Wednesday when it was revealed he had been reported killed in action on March 18. Lt. Evert was a navigator on a B-17 Flying Fortress which crashed near Gerova, Yugoslavia, as the result of action by enemy aircraft. Lt. Evert entered the service on July 15, 1943, and received his basic training at Selman field, Monroe, La. He left for overseas duty from Grand Island, Neb. on Dec. 3, 1943. He had been awarded the air medal and two oak leaf clusters. The citation relating to the awards read: "For meritous achievement in aerial flight while participating in sustained operational activities against the enemy from January 24 to March 18, 1944." A memorial service was held at St. Mary's Catholic church, Pewaukee, on Aug. 29"
