American Singer, Songwriter and Musician. He was a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter, who is considered to be a pioneer of country rock music. Born Christopher Lloyd Darrow in South Dakota, he grew up in the Los Angeles suburb of Claremont, where he became interested in folk and bluegrass music. He formed the Dry City Scat Band in 1964 while attending local college and became acquainted with Chris Hillman of classic rock legends the Byrds, who had a profound influence on his transition from bluegrass to rock music. Darrow then went on to form Kaleidoscope and recorded several albums before he joined the influential country-rockers, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1967, appearing on two albums with the band. In 1969, he formed the Corvettes, which became the touring band for Linda Ronstadt, who herself was an influential artist in the country-rock scene. Proficient in guitar, mandolin, fiddle and other instruments, he became a much sought-after studio musician who would go on to record with such artists as Leonard Cohen, James Taylor and Ben Harper. Darrow, who released a total of 10 solo albums including 'Artist Proof' (1972), 'Under My Own Disguise' (1974), 'Fretless'(1979), 'A Southern California Drive' (1980), 'Coyote Straight from the Heart' (1997), 'Slide on In' (2002) and 'Wages of Sin' (2006), died from complications following a stroke.
