Danny Gratton Wright, 65 of Tazewell, VA died Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. Born May 25, 1954 in Tazewell, VA, he was a son of the late Roscoe Gratton Wright and Louise Jones Wright. He was a graduate of Tazewell High School and member of the Bulldogs football team where he played the position of kicker and punter. He also was a member of the high school track and held the school high jump record for many years. Danny played bass with several bands in the area and played with Darnell Miller who was inducted into the Southern Country Music Hall of Fame. He enjoyed golf, gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David Roscoe Wright and James Edward Wright.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Evans Wright; son, Daniel Aaron Wright and wife, Samantha of Hickory, NC; brother, Bobby Joe Wright and companion, Robert Bowers of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Janice Pauline Brown of Thompson Valley, VA and Peggy Wright Bowling and husband, Kenny of Wise, VA; grandchildren, Hayleigh Wright, Khali Wright, and Damien Wright; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday, January 17, 2020 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 AM with Pastor Leon O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.
