He was a native of Old Trap, N.C., and lived in Norfolk 45 years.
He was a son of Jabe B. and Mrs. Abbie Pugh Burgess and the husband of Mrs. Helena Waterfield Burgess.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and Hall Masonic Lodge 53 and an Army veteran of World War I.
He was retired electrical operator for Virginia Electric & Power Co.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Enos P. Burgess Jr. of Virginia Beach, and Alan E. Burgess of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; a daughter, Mrs. Jean Sadler of Chester; two brothers, Ralph Burgess of Shiloh, N.C., and Jabe B. Burgess Jr. of Old Trap; a sister, Mrs. Effie Bray of Shiloh; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Twiford Colonial Chapel, Great Bridge, by the Rev. Walkter Stockburger. Burial in Rosewood Memorial Park.

**Enos middle name is mentioned in only one document: his WWII enlistment papers. Pugh makes sense because that was his mother's maiden name and was typical for that time period. I don't know why his son is a II instead of Junior, but his middle name is indeed Preston, making this even more intriguing.
