Ricky Lynn "Fergie" Ferguson age 69, of Ottumwa, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020 at MercyOne in Des Moines. He was born on April 8, 1950 to Glenn Louis and Esther Louise (Stater) Ferguson.
Rick attended schools in Ottumwa and graduated with the class of 1968. He married Karen North on October 12, 1974. They were blessed with two daughters, April and Cayle. Rick was a truck driver for most his life, driving under various companies such as North American Van Lines/ Young Transfer, Mayflower, and then worked for Hormel so he could watch his children grow. After the closure of Hormel; he then worked for Norris Asphalt where he started teaching others how to pass their CDL. Lastly, driving for Mike Brooks incorporated and Walmart in Mt. Pleasant.
He grew up with a passion for sports, playing football, baseball, wrestling, and boxing. He won the 1971 Iowa Heavy Weight Golden Gloves. He was a drummer in the band "Sounds of Soul". He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and arrowhead hunting, doing these activities with his friends Al & Dave Jones and Jerry Postlewaite. He raced motocross, winning various types of trophies. He was an avid pool player which he played professionally until he had his strokes. He felt his biggest accomplishment in life was his daughters and be able to coach softball, he was one of the few to start the travel softball in Ottumwa. He never had any sons, but God blessed him with grandsons and the best son-in-laws he could ask for. He was very proud of them. Rick will also be remembered for his great sense of humor.
He is survived by wife, Karen Ferguson of Ottumwa; daughters, April (Michael) Shilkus of Ottumwa, Cayle (David) Rowland of Ottumwa; grandchildren, Trysten Ferguson (Dezaray Dugger), Brandon Workman (Destiny McKay), Ethan Hernandez, Brenton Rowland, Cheyanne Bartlett; two great grandchildren, Sabrina Ferguson, Aubrey Rose McKay; one sister, Vickie Ferguson (Joni Bryan), and brother-in-law, John (Susie) North.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Ester, one granddaughter during infancy, and many cousins that he loved.
Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2020 at Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa with Michael Shilkus officiating. Visitation will also be held on Friday, opening up to the public at 2:00 p.m., and family being present starting at 5:00 p.m., Friday evening.
