Doris was born on October 28, 1922 in Clay City, the daughter of Pearl and Susie (Shipman) Coulter.
She married Carmon Earl Payne on October 30, 1940 and he preceded her in death on December 16, 2008.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Sue (Dale) Eckelberry of Flora; son, Gary (Jane) Payne of Kinmundy; grandchildren, Matt (Deborah) Payne, Zack (Maria) Payne, Krysta (Michael) Crapps, Danielle (Lonnie) McElwain, April (Ryan) Adkins, Kandi (Jay) Bubonic; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Robert “Bob” Coulter; sister, Deloris Mae; grandson, Bryan Eckelberry; and granddaughter, Kelly Ann Eckelberry.
Doris was a member of the Clay City Baptist Church. She worked at the Clay County Hospital for many years. She also worked at the AMF Manufacturing plant in Olney for many years. She loved flowers, her grandchildren, and always had a smile for everyone. For the last several years she has resided at the Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem.
Memorials may be made to the staff at Twin Willows Nursing Center, with checks written in care of Cathy Marble.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 17, 2020 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City with a visitation beginning one hour prior. Burial will follow in Clay City Cemetery.
