Nancy Ann Russell, 80, formerly of Hagerstown, MD, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019 at her son’s home in Tucson, AZ.

Nancy was born July 24, 1939 in Hagerstown, where she lived the first 76 years of her life. She was the third child of seven, born to the late Charles M. and Selma Chafin Lumm of Halfway.

Nancy was a proud member of the first graduating class of South Hagerstown High School in 1957. She then attended Towson University and, throughout her life, took many adult education courses at Hagerstown Community College.

She was hired as the secretary/bookkeeper for the Washington County Human Development Council in 1978, when the agency first started, and retired 25 years later in 2003 as assistant director. She then worked part-time for several years for the Washington County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.

She was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Hagerstown.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, boating, camping and lawn bowling at Pangborn Park.

She also was a member/volunteer with Civil Defense Rescue Co. No. 28, Boy Scouts and Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co.

Nancy is survived by her son, Chet W. Russell (wife, Jodi) of Tucson; stepdaughter, Lisa Mulrooney (husband, John) of Wilmington, DE; daughter-in-law, Nancy Russell Armstrong (husband, Mark) of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren, Evan, Bridget, Brendan, Mike, Devin, Darrian, Mike and Janelle; three great-grandchildren, Shae, Nikita and Nyla; brothers, Charles E. Lumm (wife, Lois) and Martin A. Lumm (wife, Vicki) of Hagerstown; sisters, Della Boschert (husband, Dick) of Hagerstown, Peggy Morgan (husband, Wes) of Euharlee, GA and Julie Harrison (husband, Jeff) of Windermere, FL; brother-in-law, Richard F. Trump of Union, KY; and brother-in-law, Mike Main (wife, Barbara) of Clear Spring, MD. She also is survived by many nephews and nieces, their children and grandchildren.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Stoyan Llynn Russell in 2015; her oldest son, Stoyan Eric Russell in 1993; and sister, Roxanna Trump in 2004.

The family will hold a memorial service on Friday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, with a reception following. Family and friends are invited to attend.

An internment will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington St., Hagerstown.
