James Clyde “Jim” Beavers, Sr., 71, of Princeton died Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born July 22, 1948 in Tazewell, VA he was the son of the late James Stanley Beavers and Virginia Guy Beavers Steele. Jim was a 1967 graduate of Tazewell High School and had been a resident of Princeton since 2014 moving here from Tazewell. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War as a Sergeant with the Army Rangers receiving a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. Jim had formerly preached at various Pentecostal churches in the Tazewell area and formerly sang with the Happy Goodman’s. Survivors include his wife, Mary Josephine Mathena Beavers of Princeton; two sons, James Clyde Beavers, II of Fredericksburg, VA and Billy Whitmer of Manassas, VA; step children, Ronald Burton, Bonnie Burton, Betty Burton and Sharon Burton all of Princeton; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Crouse of Levine, TX and Patsy Armstrong of Jonesboro, GA. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor John Jenkins officiating. The West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the service hour on Wednesday. Interment will be held at the Southwest Virginia Veteran’s Cemetery in Dublin, VA.
