As we retrace the life of Gracie Evelyn Furlow Jones, or Mrs. Gracie as she was affectionately
called, we can see the lives she touched and the legacy she left as a remembrance to her life
on earth. She was born on November 22, 1926, to the union of Madison and Alberta Thomas
Furlow.
She acknowledged Christ as her Lord and Savior early in her life and joined the
Harrison Chapel Baptist Church, where she remained an active faithful member until she was
transitioned from the earthly to the heavenly realm.
Throughout her life, she acquired friends and considered a host of relatives as adopted sisters
and brothers. She found it easy to make friends and share her beliefs and personality with all
races and cultures. Refusing to settle for an elementary education and wanting to better
herself, she successfully pursued and obtained her GED. She always taught her daughters to
“have some class about yourself.” Gracie held both short and long term jobs, most notedly,
Queen of Diamond Hotel and Armour Star Poultry Plant in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, and Beard
Poulan Chainsaw of Nashville, Arkansas.
In November 1959, Gracie married Vernell Jones. They shared six children, three of whom
(Eddie, Sharon, and RoseMary) preceded her in death. Husband, Vernell; her mother, Alberta Thomas;
Her father, Madison Furlow; and brother, Eugene Furlow, also preceded her in death. Left to
honor the life and legacy she leaves behind is her daughter, Sandra Lockridge of Dallas,
Texas; Fernell Jones (Patricia) of Fulton, Arkansas; and Johnny Jones of Delight, Arkansas; her
eldest grandson with whom she shared a special relationship, Dedric Jones (Robin), of
Arkadelphia, Arkansas, along with a host of other grandsons and granddaughters and many
nieces and nephews. Also left to celebrate her life is her brother-in-law, Reverend Louis Jones
of Delight Arkansas; and two sisters-in-law; Ruthell Dickerson of Detroit, Michigan, and Mattie
Furlow of Ypsilanti, Michigan; and those whom she cultivated and maintained a special and
close relationship.
Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home in Arkadelphia, AR on Friday, December 20, 2019, from 12 noon- 7:00 P.M. Family and friends hour will be from 6:00-7:00 P.M. The homegoing celebration will be on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Harrison Chapel Baptist Church in Delight, AR at 11:00 A.M. Reverend Rufus Hatley will serve as eulogist. Burial will be at Harrison Chapel Cemetery in Delight, AR.
