She is survived by:
Her children:

Steven Small and wife, Janet, of McAlester, OK
Three granddaughters:
Melissa Hightower and spouse, Kelly, of McAlester, OK
Kathryn Johnson and husband, Bryan, of McAlester, OK

Two great grandsons:
Chastin Dickerson, Jr. and Kandon Johnson
One sister-in-law:
Wanda Green of Eufaula, OK
One brother-in-law:
Bob Chapman of Oregon.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Laura Green; three infant siblings; two sisters, Aileen Berry and Lavelle Chapman; and one brother, Ted Green.

Glenda graduated from Quinton High School in 1951 and worked for a time at Haskell County Courthouse.

She married Eugene Small of Canadian, Oklahoma on November 20, 1953 in Sterling City, California, where their son, Steven, was born a year later. After a while, they moved back to Enterprise, Oklahoma, where their daughter, Rhonda, was born in 1957.

Many years later, in 1968, she married Van Brooks of Quinton, Oklahoma. She went back to College in 1974 and earned a Masters’ Degree in Special Education. She taught Special Education for 13 years, starting in Locust Grove and retiring at Quinton Public Schools.

She loved teaching, all of her students, and playing gospel songs on the piano, when she was able. She enjoyed reading and keeping her mind sharp by working crossword puzzles and coloring beautiful pictures. She loved visiting with friends at Burgundy Place in McAlester, where she resided for the last several years.

Glenda’s greatest joy was her family, her kids and her grandchildren. She enjoyed doing for them whatever she could and liked to keep up with whatever was going on in their lives. She loved big and unconditionally and was always there if we needed her. She was the best babysitter. She survived pancreatic cancer for almost two years. She kept a positive attitude to the end, usually stating, “I’m OK, I feel pretty good today” to anyone who asked. Her bright light went out for those of us who know her, but we know it’s shining now in Heaven.

Funeral Services will be at West Liberty Church in Quinton. Interment will follow at Brooken Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.
