Hawthorn Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Melvin Dean Robinson, 78, of Long Branch, Texas. Mr. Robinson was born October 9, 1941 in Canton, Texas. He passed this life peacefully December 28, 2019 at his Long Branch home. Melvin was the older of two boys born to the marriage of Melvin Dubart and Bertha Inez Featherston Robinson. He was raised in Canton, schooled in Dallas at Riley High School and would serve his country through the U.S. Army. Mr. Robinson served in the Vietnam War Artillery Infantry Unit. He was trained in special weapons and guided missiles, receiving the National Defense Service Metal, Good Conduct Medal, and a Sharpshooter Medal.
Mr. Robinson spent his career as a draftsman in Dallas, later retiring as a heavy equipment operator for Texas Utility. He loved Bar-None Cowboy Church in Tatum, Texas, the outdoors, hunting, fishing and dirt track racing with his son. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Robinson is survived by his loving wife Macie Robinson of Long Branch, Texas; sons, Randy Robinson and wife Beverly of Beckville, Matthew Dean Robinson and wife Amber Robinson of Lewisville, Milton Porter of Carthage; daughters, Melanie Robinson of Deadwood, Monica Dianne DuBose and husband Jeffrey of Lewisville, and Madison Robinson of Long Branch, Bridget Porter of Beckville; brother, Michael Dan Robinson of Wills Point; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of neighbors and friends.
