VELMA ANDREWS

Velma Alice Molles Andrews, 74, died May 24, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Stanley, Jr., and her six children: Louise Harmon of Redwood City, Karen Lessard of Petersburg, Va., Stan Andrews III of Menlo Park, Debra Dobyns of Campbell, Janene (Michael) Malatesta of Rocklin, and Kristie Andrews of Newark, Calif.; and two sisters, Mary (Gene) Croxen of Ventura and Almeda (Kent) Pierce of Stockton. Her nine grandchildren, Keith, Jeff, Will, Mike, Dylan, Jessica, Sarah, Laura, and Kathleen, and two great-grandchildren, Ashlie and Sean, will miss their adoring and proud grandmother.

Velma was born in Eureka and graduated from Tulare Union High School in 1944. She moved to Modesto and met Stan while working for Sears. They moved to Santa Rosa, where she led Girl Scouts and received her amateur radio operator license. After moving to San Carlos in 1959, she became a lifetime PTA member at Brittan Acres Elementary School. She worked for Sears, Hillsdale for 20 years, where she became a member of the Sears Hall of Fame. After retiring, she volunteered as a Deputy Commissioner of Marriages in San Mateo County at the Goverment Center, where she married over 300 couples.

Velma loved gardening, Japenese brush painting, reading, crafts, sailing, bowling and football, especially her beloved 49ers. But most of all, she loved her family and the wonderful friends she made over the years.

Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Church, 880 Tamarack Ave., corner of Belle St., in San Carlos. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Duggan's Carlmont Chapel, 1101 Alameda, in Belmont.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or the Mid-Peninsula Pathways Hospice.
