Francis J. Young, Jr USAF, Lt Col, Ret. of Landenberg, PA and Berlin, MD died peacefully on December 3rd with his son and daughter by his side.

“Jack” was born October 17, 1936 in West Philadelphia to the late Francis J. and Jean Young. Jack graduated from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia with a Physics Degree.

Jack is a Veteran of the Vietnam War where he earned several Medals including the Bronze Star.

His lifelong dream from age 14 was to be a Fighter Pilot which he fulfilled. After retiring from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel, he started a second career as a Flight Instructor at Flight Safety International in New Castle, DE. He later became the Director of Training.

He was happily married to the love of his life, Mary Noyce Young, for 50 years before she died in 2014.

He is survived by his son, Francis J Young, III Chief Msgt. Ret. (Beth) of Oxford, PA and daughter, Elizabeth A Mckenzie (Jim) of Landenberg, PA and two grandchildren, Cpl. James McKenzie, Jr and Ashley McKenzie. He is also survived by his niece, Betsy Citrolo of South Hampton, NJ and nephew Jack Hammel (Teresa) of Philadelphia, PA. Also, his loving wife’s family from Annapolis, Md meant a great deal to him. They were much more than in-laws to him. They were truly family to him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 10 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike Hockessin. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday December 6 from 5-7 pm at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek.
