SAUGERTIES…. Althea Harper, 99, of Malden Turnpike died Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Golden Hill Health Related Facility. Born March 21, 1921 she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Lily Snyder.

For many years Althea was the head bookkeeper at James J. Dargan, Inc. on Ulster Ave and prior to that she had worked for Cody Lumber Co. and Canfield Supply Co. She was a former member of the 1st Baptist Church of Saugerties and enjoyed her dog and cat as well as reading, knitting, golfing and traveling.

Predeceased by her husband, Gordon Harper and a son, Gerald VanSteenburg, she was also predeceased by her siblings, Bernice Mower, Lauretta Tice, Orville, Gerald, Herman, and Merlin Snyder. Survivors include a son, Barry and his wife, Elizabeth VanSteenburg, a daughter in law, Marge VanSteenburgh, nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Service and burial in the Blue Mountain Cemetery will be held privately. Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John & Lafayette Streets, Saugerties. Family suggests donations in her memory be made to the Saugerties Public Library.
