Born on Staten Island, NY he lived in Rahway for most of his life before moving to Colonia, later in 2014 he moved his family back to his childhood home in Rahway.
Jim was employed in the hospitality industry of over 44 years before retiring as the General Motel Manger of the Swan Motel, Linden, NJ in 2018. He was also co-owner of Rosalena Italian Deli, Milltown, NJ before retiring.
He was a longtime active member of Rahway Council #1146 Knights of Columbus serving as Past Grand Knight (PGK) and was Knight of the Year. He was also a member of BPOE #1075 Rahway Elks and The Linden Moose Lodge.
He was predeceased by his parents James E Whalen and Rose (Battista) Whalen and his son James in 2010
Surviving is his beloved wife Linda (nee Cutro), two sons Brian and Christopher Whalen, a sister Diane Seeburger and her husband Tom (who was like a big brother to Jim), he was also loved by his granddaughter Emma, nieces and nephews Gina (Charles),Tara (Anthony), Michael, Dennis (Jennifer), Erika and Aidan, and his grand nieces Ella, Maci and Madison and several loving cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Thursday June 6, 2019 at 9:00 AM in the Pettit-Davis Funeral Home 371 West Milton Ave. Rahway, NJ thence to St. Mary's RC Church, Rahway where his funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visiting will be Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM
