Herbert “Herb” Dale Anderson, 76, of Park Hills,MO and formerly of Cape Girardeau, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at NHC Healthcare in Desloge, MO.
Herb was born July 16, 1943, son of Elmer Anderson and Freda Armstrong Anderson Summey in Beardstown, IL. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Anderson, his two children: Lorrie Sterling and Jimmy (Melanie) Anderson, both of Cape Girardeau; five (soon to be six) grandchildren: Hannah, Isaiah, Noah and Owen Sterling and Skylar (and soon to arrive Emma) Anderson; sisters: Betty (Pat) Patterson of Beardstown, IL, Freda Hewitt of McMinnville, TN, Linda (Dale) Zeisler of Rushville, IL, Cathy (Tony) Pate of Rushville, IL and Debbie Summey of Garland, TX. Herb is also survived by an abundance of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: John, Leroy, and Richard “Dick” Anderson; and his father-in-law, Barney Lyles.
Herb was the family entertainer. He had several jobs throughout his lifetime including one as a bicycle ice cream vendor in Springfield, IL when he was a young kid. He retired from Rose Concrete of Scott City, MO, where he was a truck driver. Herb served in the United States Navy, the United States Army, and the National Guards.
Herb was an avid St Louis Cardinals Fan and enjoyed attending games when the Cardinals played at home in St. Louis. His other passions included trout fishing, gardening, canning, cooking, baking, making various flavored wines, and carpentry.
Services: Funeral at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd, St. Louis, MO, on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 1pm. Interment following at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
