On July 3, 1968, he was united in marriage to Charlotte A. Highland. They had one son, Joe Aaron. In 1989, they were blessed with a granddaughter, Brittany Leigh and in 1991, they were blessed with a grandson, Brennan Lei. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 3, 2018.
Joe D. was a member of the Randall Christian Church until 1988 when the church burned. He then joined the Randall Community Church.
Joe D. enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching his son, grandkids in their ball games whenever he was able to attend, and watching football and basketball on TV.
After being discharged from the Navy, he worked in construction. In September of 1968, he began his employment with the Randall Farmers Coop, Jamestown Coop, Goodland Coop and then in 1991 he returned to the Jamestown Coop and retired from there.
He is survived by his wife (Charlotte) of the home, son, Joe Aaron, Norton, Ks. Grandchildren, Brittany Leigh Anderson, Jamestown, KS and Brennan Lei Anderson, Jamestown, KS. Sisters: Sharon Smith of Overland Park, KS, Sharman Callanan (Jim), Shawnee, KS; brothers: Larry (Hank) of Atlanta, GA, Pastor Fred Anderson (Cheryl), Syracuse, NE., and Shannon Anderson (Lori) of San Antonio, Tx., multiple nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Joe D. loved life and brought joy to everyone he came in contact with. He loved children and would talk to any child whether he knew them by name or a stranger. When he entered a room, it instantly became a happier, fun filled place to be.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Saturday, December 15 at the Randall Community Church. Memorials may be given to Wounded Warriors, the Church, or Randall Community Center.
