Paul R. Lenker, 88, of Dalmatia, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, at the Green Valley Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Pitman.
He was born Jan. 4, 1932, in Lower Mahanoy Township, a son of the late Mary and Howard Lenker.
Paul's first job was working for Meckley Quarry, and had also worked at Shaffer Trucking, Weavers Garage and Byerly's Bus Service as a mechanic. In 1959, he attended Frigidaire Training Center in Cherry Hill, N.J., where he took basic refrigeration and electricity. He worked for Wertz Electric as their appliance service man for 11 years. In 1971, he started his own business selling and servicing Frigidaire and Jenn Air appliance's. He was awarded both Accredited and Master Accredited Technician rating. To earn this award you must meet high standards in workmanship, experience, training, attitude and customer relations. In addition, you must pass a two hour written exam. He ran his business for 27 years, retiring in 1997.
Paul liked to work outside in the garden and yard, taking care of his fruit trees. He enjoyed baseball, especially the Phillies. He was proud of his family, enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball and went to all of his home games and some away games. He was a member of Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, Red Cross. He served on the Council for a number of years. After retiring he did volunteer work at the church.
Paul is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lena Lenker; son, Chris Lenker of Dalmatia; daughter, Sharon Boyer; two granddaughters, Alison Boyer and Jessica Boyer; and one grandson, J.P. Lenker.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Carl, and John Lenker; and three sisters, Martha Witmer, Katherine Snyder, and Mary Furman.
A visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, Red Cross, followed by a memorial service at 2:30.
Interment will take place in the Church Cemetery.
The James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow is in charge of the arrangements.
