Married to Annelise Landgraff 1940 Horten. One child.
Sjøkrigsskole, radioskole og flygerutdannelse. Opprinnelig tilhørte han Marinens flyvåpen. Tilknyttet 330-skvadronen. Drev eskorte av konvoier i Nord-Atlanteren.. Var ute med et Catalina-fly for å lete etter tre livbåter fra en torpedert konvoi nord for Island. Været var dårlig og de vendte aldri tilbake. Gravsten på kirkegården.
His brother Gunnar Tingulsta(27) served in the English Army and fell Nov 12, 1944 in ItalyOn 5 November, 1942, Lt. Bjørn Stray Tingulstad and his crew went missing during a search for 3 lifeboats NW of Iceland. It is likely the plane hit a cliff NE of Iceland in the bad weather [although there is also a chance that it was shot down by the Nazis]. The plane was a Catalina III "flying boat", FR 535 X. Unit was 330 SQN. After the war in 1983 an Icelandic trawler located the wreck in position 6447N-2619W.
