Stephen Wood Day, 70, of Elizabeth City, NC died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Kindred Care. A native of Athens, GA, he was the son of the late James Ivey Day, Jr., and Edith Elizabeth Wood Day and the husband of Carol Anne Tillett Day of the residence.

He was a retired U.S. Coast Guard CW4 having served thirty years with a tour of duty in Viet Nam. He was a member of Eureka Masonic Lodge #317, and the Scottish Rites, New Bern, NC.

Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Heather Lynn Day of Kill Devil Hills, NC; a son, Christopher M. Day and wife Sandy of Kill Devil Hills, NC; a step-son, Kevin Thomas Bray and wife Emily of Okathe, KS; five sisters, Judy Warren and Deborah Day both Durham, NC, Martha Patrick of Spartanburg, SC, Cindy Ross of Stone Mountain, GA and Mary Griggs of Athens, GA; three brothers, James Ivey Day, Jr., of Atlanta, GA, William D. Day of Dallas, TX and John Thomas Day; two grandchildren, Katilyn Day and Taylor Powers; and a step-grandson, Hunter Bray.

He was pre-deceased by a sister, Ouida Day.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the lobby of the funeral home.
