Jackie D. "Jack" Phillips, age 85, of Frankton, died Jan. 4, 2020.
He was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Liberty, Kentucky, to Odie and Theda (Edwards) Phillips. He married Shirley Ward on Nov. 3, 1951. He retired in 1982 from Delco Remy in Anderson after 31 years.
Jack was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints first in Anderson and helped establish the Elwood branch.
Jack's life was centered on service to others - always assisting neighbors, his Frankton community, and fellow church members. He was skilled in construction and built his own home. He formerly assisted the Junior Achievement program in Anderson. He helped raise his grandchildren and loved spending time with his family.
Jack's family includes wife, Shirley (Ward) Phillips of Frankton; daughter, Cathy Burnett of Anderson; sisters, Dixie Carpenter and Anita Jenkins; nine grandchildren, Misty, Kelly, Sarah, Matt, Mandy, Spencer, Jack, Carly, and Katie; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Victor Phillips; and two siblings, Jay Phillips and Phyllis Harless.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Elwood with Ken Vehikite officiating.
