George Henry Bishop, Sr. age 90 passed away January 7, 2020 at his home.

He was born February 22, 1929 in Chester in Chester County and grew up at Saltillo and Milledgeville, the son of the late Joe Kent and Zelphia Hollin Bishop. He attended school at Saltillo. He entered the U. S. Army in 1952 and was a decorated Korean War and Vietnam Veteran. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star and retired as a First Sergeant.
He worked at Henson Ford Tractor for twenty years, and later drove for Dwain Seaton Ford, Lofton Chevrolet and Lonnie Cobb Ford.

He was a member of the VFW, The American Legion, Henderson Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star.

He was a member of the New Friendship Baptist Church.

Mr. Bishop is survived by his wife, Dorothy Marie Messer Bishop of Henderson; two sons, George Henry Bishop, Jr. (Peggy) of Morris Chapel, Bobby Dean Bishop (Ganetta) of Adamsville and a daughter, Diane Pendley of Adamsville and a stepson, George Michael Butler (Sue) of Vermont; ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, William Cecil Bishop, Jim Bob Bishop and Hallie Tommy Bishop and four sisters, Ruby Pearl Weaver, Lois Bannister, Gladys Grisham and Mary Jo Carter.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Ronnie Geary officiating. Burial will follow at Milledgeville Cemetery with Military Honors.
