Russell William Bowers Sr. was the son of Glenn Franklin Bowers Sr. and Blanche Estelle Redmond both of Frederick County Maryland. At a very young age Russell and his older sister Helen M Bowers were given up for adoption to George Burket family. Russell was listed in the 1930 census at this time as a "lodger" and his sister as being adopted into the family. After Pearl Harbor Russell W Bowers Sr. enlisted in the army. On his enrollment papers Glenn F Bowers Sr. is listed as his father. During the war Russell's brother Charles Edgar Bowers is held at a German Camp and Russell's name appears in the Frederick Post along with other brothers Glenn F. Bowers Jr. and James C. Bowers. When Glenn F. Bowers Sr. passed away at 88, Russell's name appeared in the news paper obituary and the same for his mother Blanche Estelle Redmond who died after a two week sickness on April 5th 1926 when Russell was just 3 years old.

Russell William Bowers Sr. married twice. The first marriage he had three children; two of which were Nancy Alois Bowers of Parkville MD and Sharon A Bowers of Harford County MD. His second marriage he had three more children with Katherine Viola Whitcomb of Maryland born June 20 1918 being Russell William Bowers Jr. of Baltimore, Patricia A Bowers/Morrison of Baltimore and Barbara Ann Bowers of Baltimore.

Russell was a painter by trade and enjoyed playing softball for minor league teams in the Baltimore area, fishing, playing cards, smoking cigars and being around loved ones.

Russell William Bowers Sr. passed away on July 13 2019 leaving behind 6 children, at least 12 grandchildren and at least 1 great-grandchild.
