Ramona L. Bates, 74 of Harrisburg, entered eternal peace with our Lord Jesus Christ on June 26th, 2013 at the Harrisburg Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.

The viewing will take place at 10:00 am with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am. on July 3, 2013. The Services will take place at Gospel Fellowship Church, 1635 North Seventh Street, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17102. The service will be officiated by her Bishop William Dallas III.

Ramona L. Madden was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on June 19, 1939 to Nawassa Madden.

She went to High School and graduated from Susquehanna Township Senior High School. Ramona went on to earn a nursing degree from the Steelton Highspire School of Nursing. While in nursing school she was one of two students in the area voted Best Student Nurse. She worked at a number of area Hospitals including Hershey Medical Center. In addition she was a charge nurse at Spring Creek, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania until her retirement.

Ramona married Larry C. Bates on January 13, 1959. They went on to have five children together.

Ramona was preceded in death by her son Larry C. Bates Jr.

She leaves a daughter Elizabeth E. Bates of Rutland, VT, her son Douglas W. Bates and daughter in law Gigi Bates of Dana Point, CA, her daughter Angelina R. Brady and son in law Dwight Brady of Harrisburg, PA , daughter Stephanie L. Bates of Mechanicsburg, PA. Her grandchildren Lawrence C. Bates of Rutland, VT, Douglas W. Bates II of Anaheim, CA, Shanice M. Tucker and Andre L Tucker Jr of Mechanicsburg, PA.

In addition she leaves her mother Nawassa Madden of Harrisburg, PA a brother John Madden of Harrisburg, Pa, sister Joyce G. Bivins of Harrisburg, PA. brother in law Curtis Bivins of Harrisburg, sister Lynette Madden of Harrisburg, PA as well as a host of nieces, nephews and loving friends.

Ramona was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving generous heart, and was always giving to her family, friends, acquaintances and patients. Ramona loved the early morning, sunrise was her favorite time of day. She enjoyed sitting on her porch with a cup of coffee as the birds sang in the day. She was well read and enjoyed a good book and Gospel music. Ramona was and inspiration to her neighbors of Christian kindness. Her wonderful childlike smile was something that everyone that knew her speaks of. Ramona's smile was full of love. Perhaps nothing defined Ramona more than her quiet commitment to God and her love of his word. Her willingness to sacrifice her own dreams for her family stand as a living testament of her love of them. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her family and friends.
