John was the youngest licensed land surveyor in Texas, as well as, holding the longest active license in the state. He was an artist, poet, and author. John designed the iconic First Monday statue and he has art commissioned at the Texas Capital building.

He is preceded in death by his parents; grandchild, Jonathan Ray Fincher; great grandchild, Grant Shoemake; and brother, Charles Ray Fincher.

John is survived by his wife, Sue Fincher of Canton; daughter, Susie and Rick Cerda of Canton; son, Bryant Keith and Missy Fincher of Canton; son, John Todd Fincher R.P.L.S. and wife Wendy of Canton; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren; and Phillip Norrell.
