Husband of Jackie Cooper Copeland and son of Francis and Jean Long Copeland.

John F. Copeland, of Sheppard Road, Bliss, died Saturday January 4, 2020 at his home at the age of 69. He was born April 13, 1950 in Port Allegany, PA a son of the late Francis B. and Jean C. Long Copeland.

He was a 1969 graduate of Arcade Central School and received an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Genesee Community College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971.

He was a Deputy Sheriff, Road Patrol Captain and served as Undersheriff for the Wyoming County Sheriff's Department, totaling over 30 years of service to the department. In 2003 he was elected Supervisor for the Town of Wethersfield, a position he still held at his death. He was Chair of the Public Safety Committee for the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors. He was a member of the Arcade VFW an the Eagle Post #1720 and the Strykersville Post #637 American Legions.

He was an active member of the Wyoming County Sheriff's Mounted Unit and he had served as Captain for several years. He was a Board member of the North American Police Equestrian Council and enjoyed horseback riding and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Cooper Copeland, whom he married September 28, 1991; children, Shannon Copeland, Shane Copeland and Eric Peet all of Bliss; siblings, Diana Mayer of Arcade, David (Robin) Copeland of Arcade, Eleanor (Tom Matthews) Copeland of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Tuesday January 7, 2020 and Wednesday January 8, 2020 from 2-4 an 6-8 pm at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, Inc., 358 W. Main Street, Arcade, where funeral services will be held Thursday January 9, 2020 officiated by Rev. Mark Weber. Burial will be in Hermitage Cemetery.
