MATTOON -- Richard Basham, age 73, of Mattoon passed away at 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Mattoon Healthcare.
Funeral Services honoring his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2015 at Maranatha Baptist Church, 3400 Dewitt Avenue, Mattoon, IL with Pastor Dan Basham and Dr. Daniel Haifley officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Maranatha Baptist Church. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Richard was born on June 2, 1942 in Cooks Mills, IL the son of Gilbert Owen and Edith (Davis) Basham. He married Ninetta Jean Hendren on June 9, 1963.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Ninetta Basham of Mattoon, IL; daughter, Monica Lynn Basham of Simpsonville, SC; son, Daniel Joe (Jennifer) Basham of McAdam New Brunswick, Canada; granddaughter Karyss Basham and grandson Riley Basham; sisters, Mary (Sid) Guill and Linda (Sam) Zuber; brother, Bill (Nancy) Basham. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Wayne Basham; brothers, Gilbert Basham and James Basham.
Richard retired from Kal-Kan after 23 years of dedicated service. For over 30 years, he owned and operated Basham’s Electric. Richard was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church. For many years he was a private pilot and enjoyed flying the skies. Most of all, Richard loved and treasured his time spent with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
