US Congressman. He served in the United States House of Representatives from the 8th District of Pennsylvania from January 3, 2005 to January 3, 2007 and January 3, 2011 to January 3, 2017. He earned his B.A. from St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida and later his J.D. from Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. After graduating from law school, he was admitted to the practice of law in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In 1995, he was appointed to the Bucks County Board of Commissioners and served in this capacity until 2004. In 2004, he, as a Republican, ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives and was successful in the November general election. He went on to serve one term before being defeated for re-election by Democrat Patrick Murphy in 2006. In 2010, he decided to challenge Murphy for his old seat and was victorious in the November general election. He would go on to serve three terms in the House before stepping down in 2016. During his House tenure, he maintained a moderate conservative position and consistently ranked among the most bipartisan members of Congress. His brother, Brian, ran for his seat in 2016 and was successful in the general election. He passed away after a battle with cancer.
