Rita Verne Cockrell Hill passed from this life into the arms of her Savior on Saturday, January 4, 2020. She was born June 29, 1930 to W.H. and Minnie Cockrell in Grandfield, Oklahoma. She moved to Lawton at an early age and was a 1948 graduate of Lawton High School. Her graduating class remained close friends and had yearly reunions and monthly dinners which she looked forward to and helped organize.

Shortly after graduation, Rita met and married Connie Hill, Jr. They were married August 15, 1949. She learned to be a farm wife and welcomed all of the adventures that came with living in the country. Following Connie’s death in 1973, Rita launched her own businesses: Hilltop Craft which offered quilting lessons and fabrics and Decorative Stitch Two which made large Christmas stockings and paper tole pictures that were shipped to stores all over the United States and Puerto Rico.

Rita was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she taught the Crusaders Sunday School Class for over 50 years. She was also active in PEO Chapter I, Daughters of the American Revolution, Junior Service League and the Comanche County Cattlemen’s Association where she served as secretary/treasurer for many years.
