James graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. Heeding the call to serve his country in the armed forces, James was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam war.
James once worked as an Air Traffic Controller. He was employed by B. H. Gardner, Mead Company, and Riley Chemical. After which he embarked upon a General Contracting business, Jarrett & Sons, from which he retired.
James was united in marriage with Otha Marie Jarrett on February 13, 1964. They were happily married for forty-three years, until she preceded him in death. From their union were born two sons, Tyrone L. Jarrett and Shawn M. Jarrett.
James was fondly known to family and friends as "Bug". He cherished his family. Everything he stood for and believed in was rooted in Family. "Bug" was a fierce provider and protector over not just his family but his friends and anyone he cherished. "Bug" was the stunning and perfect example of Manhood to all who knew him. He will be missed tremendously by so many.
James M. Jarrett departed this earthly life on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the age of seventy-four years, one month, and eight days. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Otha M. Jarrett; his parents; his brother, Joseph Jarrett, Jr., and his sisters, Brenda L. Jarrett-Hill and Beverly Riddick.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Tyrone L. Jarrett and Shawn M. Jarrett, Sr.; sister, Shirley Ann Wagner; five grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and other family members.
