Virginia Etheridge Davis went home to be with her Savior on January 26, 2023, leaving a legacy of love and family devotion. She was born in Auburn, Georgia, on August 16, 1930, to the late Minor Jackson Etheridge, Sr. and the late Cleo Maude Jenkins Etheridge, the youngest of their seven children. She was raised in Tennille, Georgia, and graduated from Tennille High School, where she excelled in academics and was a star basketball player. In 1948 she married Edwin L. Davis, Jr. and together they raised four children.

She was a lifelong and devoted member of Tennille Baptist Church.

Mrs. Davis was employed by the Washington County school system, where she served as a bookkeeper for Oconee RESA. She enjoyed many pursuits throughout her life, including gardening, cooking, sewing, square dancing, playing sports and games, and traveling. But she will be most remembered for her own devotion to her close-knit family and her many loyal friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband of 56 years, she is predeceased by her siblings: Mae Moody, Odis Etheridge, Eunious Etheridge, M.J. Etheridge, Jr., Roy Etheridge and Lloyd Etheridge; and granddaughter, Audrey Cook Calabro.

Survivors include: her children, Sue Armstrong (David), Jo Ann Cook (Harry), Sandy Sumner (Danny), and Billy Davis; grandchildren, Devlin Bragg (Jennifer), Anthony Bragg, Dayton Cook, Laura Poarch (Derek), and Lindsey Bauer (Nick); great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Poarch, Davis Poarch, Abigail Bauer, and Travis Bench (Molly); and a great-great-grandchild, Kash Bench. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and her two devoted care givers, Sheri Haynes and Susan Dickerson.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 30, at 2:00 P.M. at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation being held from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M.
