Loyal Servant is the best way to describe Phillip Knight. He was incredibly loyal 
to his loving wife Rosie of 37 years, his family and friends, and the Jesus he 
loved and served! He started walking with Jesus as an adult on February 8, 
1987, but once he made that decision, he lived his life to love and serve Jesus 
and others. One of his favorite places to be was University Heights Baptist 
Church. Phillip and Rosie served in the Student Ministry there for over 20 
years, teaching Sunday School, going to many Youth Camps, hosting Fusion 
weekends, setting and cleaning up things no one ever knew about, and so 
many other ways. After leaving Student Ministry, they began serving in 
PreSchool with Kindergarten. For the next 10 or more years, Phillip was every 
Kindergarten student’s favorite jungle gym, and no one knows who enjoyed 
that more--Phillip or the students! Since leaving the Preschool ministry, he 
has developed a reputation as the “Cookie Man” and has been the first one at 
the church to open the doors and begin getting cookies and coffee ready for 
everyone. He served in all of these capacities with a loyal and cheerful heart, 
because he knew his purpose was found in serving God and others. The lives 
he touched are countless. 
Phillip worked for Champion International for 26 years where he met lifelong 
friends and enjoyed the ability his job gave him to be outside doing forestry 
work. This is also where he met the love of his life, Rosie. After Champion 
closed its doors, he went to work for TDCJ and again found jobs that allowed 
him to use his skills. One of his favorite jobs was working for his good friend 
Noah Spear as the jack-of-all-trades on his various properties. 
When Phillip wasn’t serving at church, work, or around the neighborhood, he 
could be found cheering on his Dallas Cowboys (he prided himself on being a 
lifelong fan) and the Houston Astros, spending time with family, or watching 
his grandchildren in all of their activities. 
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Rosie; daughter Lisa Langlais 
and husband Philip; son BJ McMichael and wife Holly; grandchildren Stephen 
Langlais, Abby Langlais, Hannah Langlais, Elijah McMichael, and Trinity 
McMichael; sisters Susie Pynes and Jeannette Burson and husband Lloyd; 
and a host of many loved nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws. 
He is preceded in death by his parents Loen Patrick Knight and Frances 
Miller-Knight-Hussey; grandparents Bennie and Ollie Knight and Joe and 
Susan Miller; and siblings Betty Ann Weatherford, Bennie Joe Knight, and 
William Auther “Billy” Knight. 
Phillip Knight was born on March 5, 1953, and Jesus took him to the place He 
had prepared for him on January 3, 2020. That homecoming and his life will be 
celebrated on Tuesday, January 7 at 10:00 am at University Heights Baptist 
Church.
