Jay Cornelius “WildMan” Knight Jr., age 71, of Statesville, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018, at Gordon Hospice House after a period of declining health. He was born August 15, 1947 to the late Jay Cornelius Knight Sr. and Meda Wright Knight.

Jay was a graduate of Statesville Senior High, he served in the US Army 1968 to 1970, he worked for Melville Textiles as a printer.

Jay was a member of The VFW Post 2031 in Statesville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kendra Knight.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Mae Stumbo Knight; stepson, Rodney Hall and wife Tara of Statesville; one daughter, Kristy Knight of Winston Salem; one brother Gordon Knight and wife Charman of Taylorsville; two grandchildren, Aaron Nelson, of Winston Salem and Lindsay Rojas and husband Jeff of Winston Salem, three greatt-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the Chapman Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Zachary Deal will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hiddenite Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 5466. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be given in Jay's memory to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorials Processing, 501 St Jude PL, Memphis, Tn 38105-9959.
