Lonnie Hugh Norford, 91, passed away peacefully at the Laurels Nursing Home on Saturday, May 18, 2013. He was born March 2, 1922, in Stony Point, to the late Carrie Powell Norford and Lonnie Myrle Norford. A graduate of McIntire High School and a veteran of the United States Army Air Force, he was preceded in death by his brother, William; sister-in-law, Marry Lee; sister, Bobbie Mahanes; and brother-in- law, Charles. Hugh is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Clements Norford, his brother W.R. "Shorty" Norford and his wife, Elsie; and by his sister, Eleanor Osborne and her husband, Thomas. He is also survived by his children, Thomas and his wife, Deborah, Ruth Anne and her husband, Scott Laver, Phillip and his wife, C.K., Andy and wife, Amy, and David and his wife, Jean; and by his grandchildren, Rachel, Matthew, Jason, Sarah, Lawson, Gregory, Paul, Ben, Bethany, Thomas and Makayla; and by his great-grandchildren, Bryce, Braden and Ryleigh. Mr. Norford was a long-time employee of the City Laundry, and retired from Grand Piano Company in 1989. He was a life-time member of the Charlottesville Elks lodge, VFW, and a member of Cherry Avenue Christian Church; Hugh played guitar with the Beaverdam Fiddle and Banjo Club and at the weekly JABA sessions. An avid fisherman and golfer, he was a stranger to no one. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday May 21, 2013, in the Hill and Wood Funeral Home chapel with Mr. Scott Carter officiating. Interment at Riverview Cemetery will follow.
