Obituary
Dorothy Margaret Richardson, age 78, of Moravia, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2023 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
Margaret was born on July 28, 1944 in Centerville, the daughter of Charles and Hazel (Funkhouser) Burns. She graduated from high school, and furthered her education at a local college, earning her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. On July 28, 1973, Margaret was united in marriage to Verlin "Curly" Richardson.
Margaret worked as a Registered Nurse for over 50 years. Subsequently, she and Verlin spent many dedicated years owning and operating their family business, Rolling R. Enterprises, located just east of Moravia. In her later years, she was also the secretary at the Light of Life Church in Moravia. In her spare time, Margaret enjoyed reading, needle point, horses and mules.
Left to cherish Margaret's memory are her children, Charlie Elliott of Moravia and Shawn Richardson of Moravia; her special friend, Ronald Wheeler; her granddaughter, Nicole Richardson; as well as several extended family and close friends.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Hazel Burns; her husband, Verlin "Curly" Richardson; her grandson, Eddie Ray Richardson; and her siblings, Shirley Down, Frank Knapp, Jim Knapp, Ted Knapp Jr., and Delora Herald.
Per Margaret's wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00PM, Monday, May 8, 2023 at the Light of Life Church in Moravia, with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating. Inurnment will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia following the services. Memorials may be written to Furever Friends Rescue of Appanoose Inc., and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Richardson family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
