Victor Tunney Mathis, 91, died on 1/1/2020 in Oklahoma City, Ok. Victor was born on August 30, 1928 in Fairview, OK to Walter Mathis and Pearl Sharpless Mathis. Vic graduated from Fairview High School in 1946 and then attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK. Soon after, Vic met Fannie Mae Davis at Owl Drug in downtown Shawnee and they married on June 1, 1949.

Following their wedding they moved to Stillwater where Vic completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. He graduated from Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) in 1952.

Vic worked for Turnbull & Mills Architectural Firm in Oklahoma City for most of his career. In 1985 Turnbull & Mills sold to George Butler Associates. Victor retired in 1995, closing the OKC office of GBA. For the next several retirement years he donated his time and skill on projects for the Baptist Building in Oklahoma City and Falls Creek Church Camp, until his failing eyesight forced him to quit.

Vic was an avid gardener. In addition to his beautifully landscaped yard, he also coaxed a few tomatoes, onions and strawberries to grow in his sandy soil. Being an excellent craftsman/carpenter/jack of all trades, he extensively remodeled each of the two houses he owned and lived in. Vic taught Sunday School in the kindergarten department of NW Baptist Church for 30 years and was fondly known throughout the church as “Mr. Vic”. He was truly a service driven person, willing to help anyone and everyone who needed him.

Victor is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pearl; his beloved wife, Fannie; a brother, Zelta; and his sister, Juanita.

He leaves behind three children. His daughter, Vicki Seide and her husband Norman Seide; son Steve; and son Paul. He’s survived by grandchildren Samuel Seide and his wife Sarah Blaney-
Seide; Laura O’Neil and her husband Tim O’Neil. He’s survived by great grandchildren, Tristen Seide, Evelyn Seide, and Riley O’Neil.

Viewing will be Sunday, January 5, 11:00 am – 9:00 pm at Mercer Adams Funeral Service.

A celebration of Victor’s life will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 1:00pm at Southgate Baptist Church in Moore, OK. Interment will be in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.

Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the compassionate and competent care our dad received from the staff of both Meadowlakes Retirement Center and Brookwood Skilled Nursing Center.
